Although ideally you would like to be able to have your ring fitted by a jeweller, this is not always possible. If you have found the ring of your dreams in a shop further away, you can always measure the right size at home. Here are the most common guidelines for measuring your ring size. Please note, however, that this is only a general guide. The width and design of the ring you choose will also affect the fit of your ring.
What is the ring measurement
Ring sizes are always expressed in millimetres of the diameter of the inside diameter of the ring. It is best to take your measurement in the afternoon, when your fingers are usually at their normal size. Also take into account the air temperature. In cold temperatures your fingers will be thinner than normal.
There are two ways to measure your ring size at home: using an old ring or measuring your chosen finger.
Make use of your old ring
The easiest way to measure your ring size is to use an old ring you have. Measure the inside diameter in millimetres to find out the ring and the size.
Measure your finger size
There's a handy measuring chart for ring size. So take a tape measure or even a piece of string and wrap it around your finger. This will give you the circumference of your finger. Then measure this with a ruler. Remember to take into account the point of the joint, which in many people is wider than the bottom of the joint. So don't pull the gauge too tightly around your finger.
